Summary:

Reporting to the Forestry Coordinator, the Forestry student will assist in the overall management of the County Forests. The main duties will include support of forestry maintenance activities, including, but not limited to, assisting with tree felling/ removal, property and trail inspections, supervision of roadside tree activities, tree planting, weed trimming and maintenance at planting sites, basic carpentry, roadside weed inspections, sign installation, liaising with various stakeholders, in-office administrative work (e.g. report writing, filing, record keeping) general maintenance/repair of forestry equipment, and other general housekeeping duties.

Qualifications:

  • be a student who is enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies in the fall;
  • possess a valid G2/G Ontario driver’s licence;
  • possess good interpersonal skills and pay special attention to safety and detail;
  • Experience with small tools is considered an asset.

Successful applicants will be required to provide a driver’s abstract indicating a clean driving record, prior to commencement.

Department: Transportation Services Department

Location: County Administration Building – 26 Pitt Street, Cornwall

Term: May to August 2024 (approximate 4-month term)

Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week)
